Physical Characteristics: Tan skin, brown hair, slightly pointed ears. Mid-teens. The right side of his face is covered in burn scars, which he tries to hide as often as not, and there is a small white scar under his left eye from a boar tusk. His eyes, which are coal black, always seem to be unfocused and distant. He is still capable of seeing using his Second Sight, but his "eyesight" is very poor in weak/low light, and he is almost completely colour blind.
Merlin always carries a twisted staff, marked with seven magical seals. He carries a bag of treasures, containing herbs for healing, a feather from Trouble, the merlin who gave him his name, and other interesting things he has aquired over time. He also carries a sword, which he was given to safe-guard until the time when a young boy would pull it from a sheath of stone. Only he seems to know its true name.
History: The son of an evil King of a magical land, and a mortal woman, Emrys has little memory of the first seven years of his life, before he woke up on a beach with a woman who claimed to be his mother, but who he had no recollection of. Until he was about 13, he lived a fairly ordinary life in a small village, living with Branwen and helping her with her work as a Healer. When he became a teenager, he began to realise that he had a strange ability to predict the future, only later realising that he was not predicting the future, but influencing it. While trying to prevent his mother from being burned at the stake for witchcraft, he manages to trap himself and a local bully in magical flames, scarring and blinding himself, and probably killing the other boy. After a short period of healing at a monestary, where he learns to use his Second Sight to replace his eyes, he leaves Branwen, in search of his true home.
He finds himself in Fincayra, a land between Heaven and Earth, the last strong hold of the magical beings which once lived in harmony with men. A realm of magic and wonder and untold dangers, where he will discover his true past, and his true name.
Which is not Merlin, but that's what everyone will know him as.
Special notes to other players concerning magic, and Merlin's shadow:Those capable of sensing magic would sense great magical potential in him, but he rarely uses it, as he is afraid of loosing control again. The only overt sign to his magic is his shadow, which has a life of its own, and which he cannot control. It moves about whenever it likes, usually mimicing his movements, although not always. The shadow can interact with the people around it, through gestures (usually rude) and charades. But for the purposes of the RP, it will seem just like a normal shadow to those who don't know better... unless specifically stated. If the shadow chooses to interact with another player, one of two things may occur. The shadow may pantomime an action, in which case nothing will happen to the other player... or the shadow may actually interact with other shadows, and influence the physical world. The other characters may choose how the shadows earlier actions affect the physical world at each moment. However, if the shadow pulls Merlin's stool's shadow out from under him, he will fall. The shadow likes that trick.
He can also transform into a stag. But then again, who can't?
